My yoga experience begin about 25 years ago. I was struggling with some emotional anxiety at the time and heard yoga may help! I purchased a yoga video and this was the beginning of my yoga journey. Fast forward to present time 25 years later! I have used my yoga to overcome so many obstacles in life and my light shines the most when I share my practice as a yoga instructor with others. There is a saying that says "there are cracks in everything that is what lets the light shine in" I love this saying because it speaks to me as a student and instructor yoga is not about being perfect it's about learning and growing and being the best you, you can be in present time. (each moment each breath)I have had the opportunity to teach yoga in different local studios and several different countries and have learned from and met so many really wonderful people! Currently I am teaching yoga And
wellness classes at Twisted Root Yoga Studio and overjoyed to announce will also be co-owner along with Coleen Frenzel current co owner. I look forward to this opportunity and my energy will be used to bring more people to yoga. Let light shine in, out & all around us! Namaste!

I came to the practice of yoga as a means to relieve stress. Along the way I discovered a practice that engages me mentally, physically and spiritually. I find the practice of yoga to be a natural complement to my 39 years of work as a Registered Nurse in the Dubuque Community. As a yoga teacher I hope to share my passion for yoga through practices that engage the students to find their breath, mental focus, physical strength and spirituality. I completed my Yoga Teacher Certification in 2009 and an additional certification in prenatal yoga in November 2015.

Melissa Pape, Yoga Instructor

Melissa loves teaching yoga because she wants everyone around her to experience the strength, peace, health and happiness that yoga has brought into her life. As a runner and a cyclist, she is all too familiar with tightness due to her body constantly working to stabilize itself during these movements.

Yoga has been crucial to counterbalancing this effect by providing her with improved joint and muscular flexibility. Melissa's Yoga Alliance RYT-200 teacher training has provided her with the tools to necessary to support yoga students of all levels and abilities.

I AM—two of the most powerful words in existence for what you put after them you become….
I AM a faithful partner
I AM a fierce mother
I AM open-hearted and open-minded
I AM a survivor

I started practicing yoga my junior year of college to help improve my flexibility and strength for long distance running. After a personal loss, I learned the value of silencing the mind and balancing my emotions with meditation and pranayama practices. By the time that I was practicing prenatal yoga with my first child, I realized how significant yoga had become in my life and decided to take the step of self-transformation by means of yoga teacher training through Body & Soul in 2017.

Kirstin Pope, Yoga Instructor

Kirstin Pope was first introduced to yoga 5 years ago and she knew immediately she wanted more!  After leaving her first class, heart full, she looked into the night sky with arms raised high and shouted “YES PLEASE!”  Since then Kirstin has been certified through Core Power Yoga and received her 200hr YTT through Body & Soul in Dubuque and registered with Yoga Alliance.  Kirstin’s passion is teaching heart-centered Yin yoga and exploring how breath, movement, diet and mindfulness work together to release the stuff that no longer serves us.  Her yoga encompasses service to others and creating positive connections on and off of her mat.

When Kirstin isn’t practicing or teaching yoga, she is dancing, enjoying live music, attending a film or the theater, spending time with family and friends, planning her next travel adventure, creating through photography, or connect fully with life and one another in some other way. <3
